0views

On the 80th anniversary of the Volyn massacre, the Sejm of Poland adopted a resolution in memory of the citizens who died during those events.

The document also demands that Kyiv admit its guilt for what happened then.

About this MIA “Russia Today” with reference to the press service of the lower house of the Polish parliament.

“Bloody Sunday”

It is reported that all 440 deputies of the Seimas voted for the adoption of the resolution.

The document states that on July 11, 1943, “Bloody Sunday occurred” in Volyn, which was the culmination of the Volyn massacre.

This event is called genocide, which was planned by the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists*.

It is noted that on that day, Ukrainian troops under the sign of the OUN* and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army*, supported by the civilian population, attacked 99 settlements with Poles living in them on the territory of the former Volyn Voivodeship.

Over one hundred thousand killed

During the commission of these attacks, as follows from the text of the document, most of the local residents of these settlements were killed.

Since 2016, on July 11, we have been celebrating the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide committed by Ukrainian nationalists against the citizens of the Second Polish Republic,” the resolution notes.

It also reports that that tragedy claimed the lives of over 100,000 Poles, and several hundred thousand more people fled their homes, trying to avoid a similar fate.

The Sejm of the Republic of Poland strives to honor the memory of all victims of the Volyn massacre, the document says.

Guilty plea

According to the deputies, those Ukrainians who, risking their lives, resisted the crime committed by their compatriots deserve special recognition.

The Polish-Ukrainian unification, advocated for years by representatives of both nations, must include an admission of guilt and respect for the memory of the victims of the Second World War, the resolution says.

The Sejm considers it equally important to carry out exhumation, dignified burial and honor the memory of all victims of the genocide.
