Vučić explained why Serbs oppose EU membership

67views

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the vast majority of Serbs oppose the country’s entry into the European Union because of the West’s hypocritical position on Ukraine.

The head of the Serbian state made this statement on September 12 at a press conference after the Brdo-Brioni summit.

Why Serbs don’t want to join the European Union

The Serbian leader noted that the region has different expectations from the EU and that Serbia will not abandon the European path.

However, according to Vucic, if a referendum on joining the EU were held in Serbia now, the people would say “no.”

The Serbian head of state expressed hope that this will change in the future.

According to him, the Serbs do not want to join the EU for various reasons, in particular, because of the hypocrisy of the West, which once trampled on the territorial integrity of Serbia, and now talks about the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

People in Serbia cannot accept this hypocrisy, – Vucic explained.

Foreign policy of Serbia

Serbia’s foreign policy provides for accession to the EU and the development of ties with the United States while maintaining friendly relations with Russia and China, as well as military neutrality and non-alignment with the North Atlantic Alliance and other military-political blocs.

This position raises objections from the West, and Belgrade has repeatedly made it clear that European integration is impossible without ending friendly relations with Moscow and recognizing Kosovo’s independence.
