What happened to the Russian nuclear submarine Orel – comments from the Russian Ministry of Defense

17views

On August 4, foreign media published a report about an incident that occurred with the Russian nuclear submarine Orel.

In particular, the Danish media reported that while passing through the Baltic Strait zone, a nuclear submarine of the Russian Navy lost speed near the coast of the Danish island of Sehero.

Danish sailors who accompanied the Russian ships reported that the nuclear submarine had engine problems.

Upon returning from St. Petersburg, after the completion of events in honor of Russian Navy Day, problems allegedly arose on board the boat, after which, according to the Danish military, the Altai tugboat came to the aid of the cruiser for transportation to the base.

Currently, the nuclear submarine “Eagle” is performing its intended tasks, MIA quotes the words of a military source who commented on the situation.

The information published in the media does not correspond to reality; the nuclear submarine cruised through the straits as normal and returned to the warships of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation.

The Orel nuclear submarine is a Project 949A Antey nuclear submarine missile cruiser with a displacement of 24 thousand tons. The submarine’s dimensions reach 154 meters in length and more than 18 meters in width.

The ship of this project is capable of reaching speeds of up to 32 knots (59.3 km/h) and diving up to 600 meters.

The boat is armed with P-700 Granit cruise missiles, and the main task of the submarines of the project is the destruction of aircraft carriers.
