White House: US no longer has funds for Ukraine, Congress needs approval

37views

The White House said that the United States no longer has funds to support Ukraine.

This statement was made at a briefing on January 4 by the coordinator of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby.

Why does the US have no funds for Ukraine?

Kirby recalled that US President Joseph Biden signed the latest aid package to Ukraine, for which Washington had funding.

According to an NSC spokesman, the Biden administration needs congressional approval to continue providing assistance to Ukraine.

We need approval so that we can continue to provide support to Ukraine,” quotes the official.

Kirby noted that the latest aid package, signed by Biden on December 27, has not yet been fully delivered to Ukraine. According to an NSS representative, this could take weeks.

On December 27, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the provision of the latest aid package to Ukraine in 2023, worth $250 million.

Last October, the White House sent a request to Congress for $106 billion to assist Ukraine and Israel and counter Russia and China in the Asia-Pacific region.

Republicans said they would not support providing funds to Ukraine until the White House changes its approach to protecting the US border.

As a result, it was not possible to find a compromise, and the House of Representatives of Congress went on winter recess.

Earlier, Argentina resolved with Great Britain the dispute over the ownership of the Falklands.
