White House: US will run out of funds to support Ukraine in coming weeks

5views

The US will run out of funds to support Ukraine in the coming weeks unless additional funding is approved by Congress.

This information was voiced by the coordinator of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby.

Kirby’s statement was broadcast by the American television channel CNN.

What the White House said about supporting Ukraine

A White House spokesman said that the lack of additional funding requested from Congress will certainly affect the United States’ ability to support Ukraine in the fall and winter.

We still have some funds left. I think we’ll have enough for the next few weeks,” he clarified.

Kirby noted that winter will make fighting difficult for both sides of the conflict.

Therefore, we want to make sure that Ukrainians receive everything they need while conditions on the ground remain for this, – said a White House spokesman.

He added that a possible suspension of the American government would also significantly affect the ability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to achieve success on the battlefield.

As reported, on August 10, the administration of US President Joseph Biden requested from Congress $13 billion for emergency military assistance to Ukraine and $8.5 billion for assistance to Ukraine and some to other countries in the field of security and economics.

At the end of August, the White House asked Congress to approve a short-term extension of government funding to avoid a shutdown of several departments.

The head of the White House Office of Management and Budget, Shalanda Young, then said that this initiative would give Congress time to reach a compromise on budget issues.

If Congress does not pass a budget for fiscal year 2024 by the end of September, the US government will have to shut down.
