The World Health Organization (WHO) has named the region with the fastest growing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic.
This region turned out to be Europe.
This statement was made by Hans Kluge, who heads the European bureau of the organization, reports.
A WHO representative shared this information on December 1. World AIDS Day falls on this date.
What did Hans Kluge say?
A representative of an international organization described the situation in Europe as “the fastest growing HIV epidemic.”
Kluge emphasized: in half of the cases the diagnosis is made too late.
According to the head of the WHO European Bureau, a similar situation has been observed in Europe for several years.
At the same time, Kluge noted that in different parts of the continent there is a different situation: in some countries mortality rates are very high, in other countries the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus has virtually stopped.
Hans Kluge called on politicians and doctors to do everything possible to combat the spread of HIV.
