Work has begun on dismantling the monument to the liberators of Riga in Latvia.

In the capital of Latvia, work is underway to dismantle the monument to the liberators of Riga, located in Victory Park.

They started on Tuesday morning, August 23rd. Large equipment was brought to the site, in particular, tractors and excavators.

One of the excavators at the foot of the monument is dismantling the steps, the second is transporting construction waste to a container.

The territory of the facility is fenced, ribbons are stretched between the trees, fences are placed, – MIA “Russia Today” with reference to Delfi.

It is also reported that police are on duty at the site of the demolition of the Soviet monument.

Earlier, at the beginning of August, Riga Mayor Martins Stakis announced that after dismantling this monument would be destroyed.

According to him, the Museum of Occupation did not recognize any part of the monument as artistic value.

However, this cultural institution informed that they did not evaluate the sculptural composition in terms of its artistic value, since they did not have the appropriate authority.
