WP: Former Austrian Foreign Minister fled the country due to death threats

45views

Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl had to leave the country.

The politician emigrated from Austria due to receiving death threats.

An American publication reported this on July 5, citing a statement by Kneissl herself.

Why did the ex-minister leave?

In correspondence with a WP journalist, the ex-minister said that she emigrated from Austria due to receiving death threats and that she no longer gives interviews.

Kneissl headed the Austrian Foreign Ministry in 2017-2019. At the end of May, the ex-minister left the board of directors of Rosneft, which she joined last year as an independent director.

A similar decision was made by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, who served as chairman and was subjected to severe criticism due to ties with Russia.

In March, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recommended that he refuse to work in Russian companies.

The European Parliament previously adopted a resolution calling on former European politicians to resign from positions in Russian companies, allowing them to be included in EU sanctions lists.
