The wreckage of the An-26 passenger plane that went missing in Kamchatka has been discovered.

They are located approximately 3.8 km from the airport in the village of Palana, where the plane was heading from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the Kamchatka Territory informs about this.

It is noted that rescuers are currently traveling to the site on all-terrain vehicles.

Advancement is complicated by the dark time of day (the time difference with Belarus is 9 hours. – Ed.) and the rising tide, the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement.

The search involved specialists from the search and rescue squad and the specialized fire and rescue unit of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory, as well as the department’s operational group.

In connection with the current situation, a hotline number has been opened at the Center for Emergency Psychological Assistance of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia to provide emergency psychological assistance and information support.

What the governor said

Let us remind you that it was previously reported that there were six crew members and 22 passengers on board the plane, the crew of which stopped communicating.

In turn, the governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov, said that presumably the wreckage of the plane was discovered from the air – about 5 km from Palana.

Version of what happened

Earlier, another source from the emergency services reported to the news agency that debris had been found.

According to him, the plane could have collided with a hill before falling, as a result of which it was destroyed. The debris could have fallen into the Sea of ​​Okhotsk.

The plane was landing in difficult weather conditions, there was poor visibility and cross winds. The first time he didn’t succeed, the second time he crashed into a rock without noticing it. The plane immediately began to collapse, the emergency services noted.

It is reported that, most likely, no one survived the plane crash.
