WSJ: The United States demands that Turkey not accept Boeing aircraft from Russia and Belarus

0views

The American edition of The Wall Street Journal writes that the US authorities are putting pressure on Turkey to stop accepting and servicing American-made aircraft from Russia and Belarus.

According to the publication, Washington threatened the Turks with fines, prison and the abolition of export privileges.

What demands does the US make?

Senior US officials have threatened the Turks with fines, prison terms and loss of export privileges for violating export controls introduced last year, sources said.

We are talking about refueling and replacing spare parts in American-made aircraft flying to and from Russia and Belarus.

According to the publication, US Assistant Secretary of Commerce Thea Roseman Kendler conveyed this information to Turkish officials during a visit to Turkey last December.

The article notes that this attempt by Washington to put pressure on Ankara will be a key test of whether the United States and its allies can succeed in long-term isolation of Russia or whether it will continue to conduct economic activities with the help of other countries.

The publication’s journalists asked the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to comment on Washington’s warning, but received no response.
