The administration of US President Joseph Biden is exploring the possibility of transferring long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine this fall.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing American officials.

What they are saying in Washington about ATACMS supplies to Ukraine

As the interlocutors said, this fall the Biden administration will take a fresh look at the transfer of ATACMS to Ukraine in order to strengthen the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The publication’s sources clarified that Biden has yet to approve the transfer of missiles.

Officials also said that the United States may transfer a limited number of missiles to Ukraine to avoid depleting its own reserves.

Earlier, Reuters reported that Washington was close to approving the transfer of ATACMS or GMLRS missiles with cluster warheads to Ukraine.

According to ABC TV channel, ATACMS missiles may be transferred as part of the next aid package to Ukraine.

The head of the US State Department press service, Matthew Miller, stated that Washington has not changed its position on ATACMS and is not transferring them to Ukraine.

ATACMS with a flight range of up to 300 km can be launched using the HIMARS MLRS. Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to the United States with a request to transfer these missiles.

Politico previously reported that Kyiv is putting pressure on Washington to get approval for the supply of ATACMS for the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held on September 19-26.
