The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Russia’s response to Finland’s decision to join the North Atlantic Alliance will be a surprise.
This statement was made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at a briefing on May 18.

Zakharova’s statement
When asked by a Finnish journalist about what military-technical measures Russia plans to use against Finland and when, in connection with the country’s application to join NATO, Zakharova replied that it would be a surprise.
The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that this is a question for the Ministry of Defense.
According to Zakharova, the decision on retaliatory measures will be made based on how Finland’s membership in the alliance develops.
It is primarily for the military, – added the diplomat.
Let us remind you that today the ambassadors of Finland and Sweden to NATO officially presented applications for joining the alliance to the organization’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
