Fighting aphids on roses: everyone already has a miracle liquid at home

95views

You care for your roses with a lot of love and patience, and suddenly the buds and leaves are covered with aphids. This is exactly what can happen to anyone.

Our grandmothers cope with different problems in the garden. Of course, they have a solution for this acute problem with crawling insects.

There is a home remedy that miraculously copes with aphids on roses.

A simple home remedy is better than chemicals

Personally, I’m not a fan of the milk trick against aphids because I don’t want to waste food. That’s why I think Grandma’s tip for combating aphids on roses is much better. She swears by soapy water against the pests.

You are guaranteed to have everything you need for this simple but effective home remedy at home!

Soapy water against aphids on roses

It is super simple to make soap suds against aphids. Simply fill a spray bottle with lukewarm water and add a few drops of washing-up liquid. Swirl and you’re done. The warmer water temperature distributes the detergent evenly.

Then spray your aphid-infested roses thoroughly, especially the undersides of the leaves and the buds, where the aphids like to hide.

The soap causes the aphids to die and gradually disappear from the roses. It is important that you do this treatment on a cloudy day, in the early morning or evening, to avoid sunburn on the plants.

You should repeat the whole process a few days in a row until all the aphids are gone.

Professional trick: soft soap instead of washing-up liquid

By the way, gardening professionals swear by a soap suds made from soft soap and water to combat aphids on roses and other plants. The liquid is said to be even more effective than a mixture of water and washing-up liquid.

However, the production process is a little more complicated than with washing-up liquid. To make soap suds from soft soap, you need:

  • a large pot
  • 1 tablespoon of soft soap
  • 1 L water

This is how it works:

Cut the soft soap into pieces or grate it coarsely. Heat the water in a pan and add the pieces of soft soap. Stir until the soap has completely dissolved. Turn off the heat, put the pan to one side and wait until the soap suds have cooled down completely.

Pour the liquid into a spray bottle and use it to treat the aphid-infested roses. Again, only spray the plants when the sun is not shining. Otherwise you risk burnt flowers and leaves.

I hope that these tips will help you to control the aphids on your roses. Incidentally, there are also a number of plants that avoid pests and require little care.
