In this day and age, when many of us are trying to live more environmentally friendly while saving money, we are looking for alternatives to the traditional products we use every day. Toilet fresheners are one of the items where we can easily switch to home-made and save not only money, but also the planet. In this article, we’ll show you how you can make your own toilet freshener that will be just as effective as a store-bought one, but at a fraction of the price.

Why make a toilet freshener at home?

  • Saving money: Homemade air fresheners are significantly cheaper than buying them at the store.
  • Eco-friendliness: By manufacturing our own air fresheners, we reduce the amount of plastic waste and chemicals released into the environment.
  • Customizing: You can customize the scent and strength of the freshener to your own preference.

Recipe for homemade toilet freshener

You need:

  • 3 tablespoons (tbsp) of washing powder
  • 1 tbsp mint toothpaste
  • 1 tbsp dish detergent
  • Optional: essential oil of your choice

Procedure:

1) Preparation of the mass: Put washing powder in a bowl and mix it with toothpaste, preferably mint. Then add the dishwashing detergent to the mixture and mix everything well. You should get a homogeneous plastic mass. If the mass is too thin, add a little more washing powder. If it is too dry, add a little paste or detergent. You can also add a few drops of essential oil for extra aroma.

2) Forming the balls: Shape the prepared mass into balls or other shapes and let them dry on the paper. After about half an hour, the balls will firm up and be ready to use.

3) Use: Place the finished balls in the case from the store-bought freshener you ran out of, and use as you normally would. Hang on the rim of the toilet to freshen the toilet each time you flush.

Bonus: Gel Toilet Freshener

If you’re looking for an even simpler solution, you can try a gel toilet freshener. Just mix 100 ml of water, 25 to 30 ml of liquid soap, 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, 6 teaspoons of citric acid and a few drops of essential oil. Bring this mixture to a gel consistency, fill it into a reusable hanging holder and you’re done.

Making your own toilet fresheners is easy, inexpensive, and above all, environmentally friendly. With a little creativity and a few basic ingredients, you can have an effective and pleasant smelling freshener that will also be a stylish addition to your toilet.
