On hot summer days, we like to ventilate our rooms to let in fresh air and, depending on the time of day, some sunshine or cool air. Unfortunately, this is an open invitation for insects.

Flies, attracted by the smell of food, and mosquitoes looking for a meal, eagerly enter the house. These insects are really annoying. How can we get rid of them effectively? There is a simple solution.

Insects Make Summer Days Unpleasant

It’s hard to imagine summer without ventilating the house. In the morning, we welcome the first rays of sunshine into our rooms, and in the evening, we crave some cool air after a hot day. Unfortunately, along with the fresh air, unwanted guests also enter the house.

During the day, flies invade our rooms, especially the kitchen, and in the evening, mosquitoes become more active. The presence of these insects is very unpleasant, but we don’t have to tolerate it. How can we get rid of these pests?

Effective Insect Repellent

Various insect repellents, traps, and fly sprays are available on the market, but they only work after the insects have already invaded. It’s better to repel pests and prevent them from entering in the first place.

How to Repel Insects Effectively

You don’t need to spend a fortune on chemical insect repellents. Simple, homemade products that everyone has on hand can be just as effective. But first, it’s necessary to know what repels flies and mosquitoes.

These pesky insects have a strong aversion to certain odors. They are particularly repelled by the smell of spices and essential oils. Use this to your advantage and prepare a homemade remedy to repel flies and mosquitoes.

Homemade Fly and Mosquito Repellent

The recipe for a homemade repellent is simple. Dissolve a tablespoon of ground cinnamon in a glass of water and add a few drops of vanilla oil. Mix everything well and pour it into a spray bottle, straining the liquid through a very fine strainer or cheesecloth.

Spray the prepared solution on the openings through which insects enter the house, such as window frames, door corners, and gutters. You can also spray this liquid on plants on the windowsill, balcony, or terrace, as well as in the garden. The scent of cinnamon and vanilla effectively repels insects and keeps them away for good.
