My name is Vadim, I am 26 years old. I moved from Ukraine to Canada because of the military operations that are currently taking place there. Together with my wife Zoya, my mother and my younger brother, we came under the CUAET program. We have been living in Edmonton, Alberta, for five months now. However, our new life turned out to be far from what we expected.

Difficulties in Finding a Job

Difficulties awaited us from the very beginning. It turned out to be much more difficult to find a job here than we thought. Despite our efforts, it is not so easy for Ukrainians to get a job here. Everywhere you look, mostly Indians are hired, of which there are a lot in this country.

Unpleasant Surprises on the Streets and Lots of Homeless

The dirt on the streets was an unpleasant surprise for us. You can see garbage everywhere, and it feels like no one cares about cleanliness here. But the biggest problem is the homeless. There are a lot of them here, and they can be aggressive. There were times when they started chasing us for just a casual glance.

Harsh Climate

In addition, the climate here turned out to be much harsher than we expected. It is very cold here in winter, and it was not easy to get used to such conditions.

Holding onto Hope

Despite all these difficulties, we do not lose hope. We continue to adapt to our new life and look for opportunities to improve our situation. Moving to another country is always a challenge, but we believe that we will cope with it and be able to find our place in this new reality.

Moving to Canada turned out to be much more difficult than we expected. But despite all the difficulties, we do not give up and continue to look for ways to adapt and improve our lives. We hope that over time everything will get better, and we will be able to start a new, happy life in this country.
