Hungary supports Finland and Sweden joining NATO

0views

The Hungarian authorities are in favor of Sweden and Finland joining NATO.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote about this on his Twitter page on Monday.

“We support the admission of Sweden and Finland to NATO,” he wrote.

However, at the moment it is not known when the Hungarian State Assembly will ratify the corresponding document.

It is known that this year the parliament will no longer consider this issue, and, according to Orban, will begin to consider it only next year.

After the meeting of the heads of government of the Visegrad Group countries, held on November 24, the Hungarian Prime Minister, during an organized press conference, announced that the State Assembly will begin to ratify the agreements on the accession of Sweden and Finland to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization only during the first session of 2023.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó has repeatedly stated that Hungary is not inclined to delay the process of Sweden and Finland joining NATO, and bills on ratification of the relevant protocols were presented by the head of the foreign policy department on July 14 of this year.

However, contrary to the aspirations of the government, deputies will not be able to complete consideration of this issue until the end of the autumn session, which will last until mid-December 2022.

At the moment, out of 30 NATO countries, only two have not ratified the documents on accession to the alliance of Sweden and Finland – Hungary and Türkiye.
