The US Army units located in Lithuania are changing the level of military presence – from containment to combat.
The commander of the Armed Forces of the Baltic country, Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupšis, notified the general public about this on the air of the national radio LRT.
According to him, until now, US military personnel in Lithuania have carried out tasks related to studying the environment and conducting joint exercises.
Now such units are deployed that are provided with equipment for immediate combat operations, – General TASS agency.
He noted that the restructuring is explained by the changed security situation.
Taking into account the assessment of military threats and the assessment of the potential enemy, it is a reaction to the situation,” said the commander of the Armed Forces.
And he added: the means of deterrence showed the likelihood of a tactical modification of the American presence – and so it happened.
